Typical hiring rounds to prepare for

job interview

So you’ve shortlisted a few job roles. You’ve sent in your CV and Job Application. What happens next?

Various companies handle recruitment in multiple ways. While Personal Interviews are what we all prepare ourselves for, some firms have other Hiring Rounds that you as an applicant must be ready to encounter. Each round has its own preparation and significance that you must understand and face accordingly.

  1. Telephonic Interviews

telephonic interviewPhone interviews are convenient in saving both cost and time. These can last from 10 minutes to an hour. Always make sure the number provided in your application directly lead to you. If you get a call and it’s not a good time then don’t stress. Rescheduling an interview with valid reasons is definitely allowed.

It is essential to understand the job and your contribution to it right before applying. These interviews are meant to understand your background information, your communication skills and your knowledge of the job role and company. Make sure you’re in a quiet place and answer the best you can.

  1.   Personal Interviews

Here’s the one round everyone is mentally prepared to face. Wear your smartest outfit, carry along all the necessary documents and make sure you’re on time. Treat the interview like a conversation to avoid getting nervous. This is also the best time to clear your questions and ask your doubts. YES the future of your career depends on this but NO there’s nothing to get worked up about. Just be yourself, ask all you need and tell us all you know.

  1.   Reference & Background  Checks

A statement or the contact details of your previous employees, mentors or personal references may be asked upon applying. This is meant to understand your workplace behaviour while validating your details and understanding you suitability for the role.

  1.   Pre-Employment Tests

The type of tests conducted will entirely depend on your role. Job Knowledge tests are the most commonly conducted tests and aim at understanding how much you know about your job role. There are also Psychological, Behavioural, Fitness and other such tests especially for a cruise line job where good health is crucial.

Remember that not all of the above rounds may be followed by all firms. Some might have 2 or even 3 of each round and none of the other. The order too might not necessarily be same. Either way, the above are some of the most common rounds to prepare for while job hunting.
